Toaster Oven advice??

Hello fellow hipsters!!

As a birthday present, I received a somewhat sizable gift card for Sur La Table (woooo!!). After looking at lots of different options (we already have good cookware, pretty good knives, nice glasses, and a fair amount of gadgets) I've narrowed it down to upgrading our toaster oven, which is ancient and though it does work, it's all gross and old and takes FOREVER to heat up.

Sur La Table has 2 ovens available that I'm choosing between. They are:

1) The Delonghi Convection Toaster Oven, model DO1279
and
2) The Krups Convection Oven, model FBC2

I've been looking at reviews on Amazon, Consumer Reports, and Cooks Illustrated. Both models have good & bad reviews out there (of course). The Delonghi is rated as 'very good' by Consumer Reports but they don't have ratings on the Krups. The Krups is the top pick of Cooks Illustrated, but they don't look at the Delonghi. And both models have the range of reviews on Amazon from "Eeek, my house almost burned down!" to "This toaster oven should win the Nobel Prize!"

There is a price difference between the two of about $70; if we go with the less expensive model we can also get a yogurt maker (which would be exciting). The more expensive oven would be the only purchase.

We use the toaster oven for toasting things (of course), and cooking things like frozen foods, re-heating pizzas, etc. However, I'm open to being able to do more with it, we've just been somewhat limited with our current oven.

Anybody have any thoughts on either of these? Or on yogurt makers for that matter???? Thanks in advance!!

**EDIT**
Alright, it looks like the Delonghi (and the yogurt maker!) are the winners! Thanks for everyone's feedback :-D

Not entirely related, but I had a really disappointing experience with a $100 Krups coffee maker that was a wedding gift. I looked up our coffee pot on Amazon to find that it had terrible reviews and that there were several problems that it would likely have in the future. However, despite all of the complaints about this pot, nobody was able to get their pot replaced or repaired through Krups even though they were all having the same problems. So, from a product support standpoint, I would never trust a Krups appliance again.

It made such bad coffee that we threw it away and bought a Cuisinart.

Yeah, it looks like when they work they're great, but Krups products seem to have very spotty track records and HORRIBLE customer service. Point for the Delonghi!!

Hehe. My Krups coffeemaker leaked like a sieve when making coffee. It was also a wedding gift. Its long since been replaced though.

I can't tell you anything about toaster ovens, but I love my yogurt maker. But I got mine for about $15 from Amazon, so it wasn't hugely expensive, and I don't think you really need a super fancy one. I like mine because it makes a single pot of yogurt, but the ones that are 5 little containers are also nice. I got one of those for about $3 from a thrift store, but the one I got from Amazon is better for my purposes.

I think the yogurt maker would be fun and useful....it's one of the models that makes 7 little jars, and since there's just 2 of us, that would be a little more convenient.
Thanks for the comment!

As for yogurt recipes, I recommend using the Fage full fat Greek yogurt for a starter. And if you aren't watching calories, if you make the yogurt with half whole milk and half half and half, it's AMAZING. Also, if you just let it "cook" for a few hours, it's so incredibly mild and fabulous. Nothing like store bought. My mom makes hers with the Fage full fat as a starter and then nonfat milk and it's really good as well. You can use your own as a starter for a little while but they recommend starting with a store bought one every once in awhile.

Can't say much about the ovens, other than any I've ever owned was horribly slow to make actual toast and now I use a regular old toaster.

I have a yogurt maker I got from amazon for about $30 a year or two ago. It makes the 7 individual cups, and I love it. I make yogurt once a week, and its still going strong. It is a Salton.

The yogurt maker I'm looking at is a different brand, but that same sort, with the 7 little cups! I feel like we'd get lots of use out of it and have heard from people that once you have homemade, you can never go back to store-bought yogurt :)
Thanks for the comment!

I've not had that particular Delonghi model but I have had their toaster/convection ovens in the past and they were great. I used them just as I would a big oven. Toast was about the only thing they did not do well. And they did that well, just slowly.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm currently leaning a bit towards the Delonghi anyways so this is just another point in its favor!

I know nothing about the toaster ovens, but you can make yogurt in a crock pot.

I don't have either one but have had good luck with DeLonghi products. We do have the Breville Smart Oven and love it. You can fit a 12" pizza in it! http://www.surlatable.com/product/electrics/toasters+%26+ovens/breville+stainless+steel+smart+oven.do?sortby=ourPicks

omg that breville toaster oven is like a little miracle, I love it, and the fact that it is slightly bigger inside makes it much easier to find pans and pizza stones etc It is seriously worth investing a little extra.

I did have that krups one and it is smaller inside than I would like and after a couple of years the hinge broke and the repair would be like half the price, oh and when it would heat up sometimes the door would stick to the toaster oven and you had to yank it ... and now that i typed that i know why the hinge broke ...

Breville ftw!

If it makes a difference, I prefer the look of the DeLonghi.

I have the Krups toaster oven (got it as a gift myself) and I have to say, I love it. I like the way to select the amount of doneness on the toast, I love the oven and convection oven features on it, and the both work REALLY well.

I do not have experience with these particular products but in general I have always been VERY pleased with my Delonghi products and have also had some bad customer service issues with Krups. I also prefer the looks of the Delonghi toaster oven, it's less expensive, and you could get a yogurt maker! Just my opinion :)

one thing I will mention, even though it's not choosing between your two options (and I'm sorry if I make this complicated for you!):

my parents have a big toaster oven. It's nice because you can make pizzas and side dishes and all that jazz. I've got a tiny little one that just fits two pieces of bread. I can still make side dishes, but mine toasts much faster than theirs. Mine is super ancient, so I don't know the name of it, but I thought I'd put out a size consideration out there in terms of toasting. I do make tiny individual pizzas in it, and I can cook little side dishes, but that's it. I actually have a few tiny casserole dishes for cooking in it :-) it's perfect for one or two but not for many more people.

I have the previous model Delonghi (it has a different time selector) and I love it. My folks have had one of their toaster ovens for most of my life, and when I moved out I had to get one too.

I use mine for toasting and thawing/warming food all the time because I eat gluten free, and most pre-made foods need to be warmed up to taste decent. My dad bakes in his, and everything comes out just as well (sometimes better) than if it was done in a full size oven. Especially brownies!
